Western Sydney airport partners with leader in travel smart tech

Western Sydney International (WSI) Airport has chosen travel technology company Amadeus to help deliver new secure operations and passenger systems.

With more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry developing and successfully delivering industry-leading software and hardware solutions across airports and airlines, Amadeus will work with WSI with the aim of co-creating the digital customer experience of the future.

WSI Chief Executive Officer, Simon Hickey, said the partnership with Amadeus would ensure customers of Sydney’s new airport will experience a seamless travel experience enabled by proven, leading edge technology.

“Having one strategic airport systems technology partner to drive operational efficiency and customer experience gives WSI a clear advantage. Amadeus provides us with decades of experience combined with a common goal of advancing the digital experience that our customers expect,” Mr Hickey said.

“Amadeus designed systems will manage a range of assets and touchpoints across the airport in an integrated way that will mean a more seamless experience for our customers, including flight data, check-in facilitation, aircraft stands and gates, as well as bag-drop, boarding and biometrics services.

“By working with hardware products that are designed, built and supported here in Sydney we will deliver a leading digital customer experience as we connect the world to Australia via Sydney’s cultural heartland.”

Amadeus SVP Airport & Airline Operations, APAC, Sarah Samuel, said the partnership would elevate the role digital technology plays in the collaboration between airlines, ground handlers and other providers.

“WSI provides much needed aviation capacity to the Sydney market, and it will be exciting to see the impact of fully integrated systems for passengers flying from this new global gateway. Our self-service capabilities will support the airport’s goals to deliver an efficient and seamless experience for passengers.”

Western Sydney International is on track to open in late 2026.
