The Multi-Billion-Dollar Makeover of Brisbane's Eagle Street Pier Precinct

The Multi-Billion-Dollar Makeover of Brisbane's Eagle Street Pier Precinct

The Eagle Street Pier precinct of Brisbane is expected to undergo a $2.1 billion makeover after the Dexus group's development plans were accepted by the Council.

Two commercial towers will be included in the Waterfront Brisbane project, with hanging gardens, as well as new restaurants, bars and shopping districts.

Around 9000 square meters of public space, along with a wider resurfaced river walk, will also be integrated into the development.

Matt Beasley, Project Director, said the development would "supercharge" the area and ensure that it retains its reputation as the business center of the region.

"Waterfront Brisbane is a fantastic opportunity to see a key piece of the city transformed that has been underdeveloped for 30 years," he said.

"It will be a fantastic new piece of city."

When work gets underway in 2022, existing companies will be shut down for two years.

Restaurant worker Gizem Temizkan said that she recognized the need to revitalize the city.

"It's worth it," she said.

"There's going to be amazing new development by the river and will be much better than what's here now."

Dexus has also committed to seeking an alternate path for the 280 metre stretch of River Walk

that will have to remain closed for the duration of construction

It is predicted that the first tower will be completed in 2026.
