NSW Trade Licenses to Go Digital

NSW Trade Licenses to Go Digital

As part of the next step of the state's digital transformation, the NSW government is adding trade licenses to the digital wallet inside the Service NSW app.

Kevin Anderson, the NSW Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, announced that the State Government would digitize the license card for over 30 Home Building and SafeWork license categories.

“Currently tradies are required to carry anywhere up to 15 plastic license cards with them on the job,” Mr Anderson said, “It’s an outdated system that is costing tradies time and money. Under these changes tradies will finally be able to say goodbye to the plastic licenses clogging up their wallets and have quick and easy access to all the work licenses they need on their smartphones.”

The first category to go digital is the White Card, which allows the holder to work in the construction industry in NSW. It will be accompanied by a number of other categories, including Home Building industry contractors, managers, and tradesmen, as well as high-risk work licenses.

The reforms, according to NSW Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello, build on the popularity of the digital driver license, which has been downloaded by over 2.54 million motorists since its October launch.

“There are close to 1.5 million site managers, surveyors and tradies who hold a White Card in NSW and whose lives will be made easier by this reform,” Mr Dominello said.

“We know people love the convenience of a digital license and this is another example of NSW leading the nation on digital transformation.”

Customers will need a MyServiceNSW account and to download the Service NSW app in order to display their digital White Card.
