Intelligent Planning Tool to Ensure Increased Housing Land Availability

Intelligent Planning Tool to Ensure Increased Housing Land Availability

The New South Wales and Federal Governments have invested over $11 million in the Land iQ platform, a groundbreaking land-use technology tool. The platform integrates more than 40 types of land use data, enabling the quick assessment of over 8 million properties and lots to support the identification of underutilized public land for housing and other uses. Currently, it is in use by various New South Wales Government departments and local councils, reducing time and costs while aiding in flood response planning.

The New South Wales Government is further committing $9.3 million to enhance Land iQ, expanding its capabilities for broader use beyond the public sector. The Federal Government has invested $1.8 million to integrate natural disaster risk and resilience analysis into the platform, aligning with recommendations from the 2022 NSW Flood Inquiry.

This platform, developed by WSP Australia and Giraffe, with support from Aerometrex, streamlines land assessment processes, facilitating quicker housing solutions. It offers a shared platform for government agencies and councils to access and analyze shared data, ultimately contributing to addressing housing challenges and modernizing the planning and approval system. The initiative aligns with the broader goal of expediting housing development and reducing bureaucratic barriers.
