Insights Revealed: Current Status of Australia's Robotics Industry Unveiled by New Research
A recent collaborative market report by HowToRobot.com and Robotics Australia Group has revealed insights into Australia's burgeoning robotics industry, identifying 466 businesses specialising in robotics and automation.
The report highlights an expanding sector poised to tap into the rising global demand for robotics, with a breakdown of these businesses: 57% are integrators, 19% are robot manufacturers (including drones), 15% are component suppliers, 7% are distributors, and 3% are advisors.
Key sectors served by these suppliers, aside from the robotics industry itself, include metal and machinery (47%), logistics (42%), and food and beverage (30%). Notably, Australia demonstrates a strong emphasis on non-manufacturing industries, particularly mining (29%), energy (24%), construction (20%), agriculture and forestry (19%), and recycling (17%).
HowToRobot CEO Søren Peters highlighted the increasing need for robotics and automation globally due to labor shortages and aging populations. He stressed that many sectors, where Australia excels, will heavily rely on robotics for automation.
Chair of Robotics Australia Group, Dr. Sue Keay, emphasised Australia's expertise in field robotics, citing examples like agricultural swarms, offshore inspection with underwater robots, and mobile robots for challenging environments.
Australian robotics companies primarily focus on automating various tasks common across industries, including handling and picking items, inspection and quality control, logistics and storage, packing, and palletising.
