Cincinnati Children's Acquires Digital Futures 2 Building

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is broadening its research footprint by acquiring the 180,000-square-foot Digital Futures 2 building in the Cincinnati Innovation District (CID).

As detailed by the Cincinnati Business Courier, the new establishment at 3090 Exploration Ave. will accommodate over 200 researchers and generate 100 fresh research positions.

The CID constitutes an environment centred around the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's. It is situated near UC's 1819 Innovation Hub and the UC Digital Futures structures. The region is swiftly gaining recognition as the Centre for the Silicon Heartland, an ecosystem focused on innovation and research in the Midwest.

Cincinnati Children's intends to utilise the upper two levels of Digital Futures 2, a six-storey edifice, with the remaining levels earmarked for potential lessees. This research edifice will stimulate further job opportunities and investments within the CID, with plans to include dining venues to enrich the collaborative innovation atmosphere.

This initiative forms part of a substantial drive by Cincinnati Children's and UC, jointly investing over $450 million annually in research. These investments drive advancements that foster the establishment of startups in the technology and healthcare sectors, drawing in Fortune 500 companies and nurturing expansion.

The completion is anticipated to last between nine and 12 months. JobsOhio, the state's non-profit economic development entity, is backing the initiative with a £32 million low-interest loan as part of its $100 million commitment to the CID. The project also involves Terrex Development & Construction, Messer Construction, and other local enterprises, underscoring the community's dedication to developing the new area.

The collaboration among the state, JobsOhio, the city, UC, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital within the CID is generating lasting advantages. This partnership firmly establishes the region as a nucleus for innovation and transformation, integrated into the broader ecosystem of the Centre for the Silicon Heartland.
